John Brocklehurst Prize

Clinical Practice and Audit Prize

The Scientific Committee is pleased to announce the establishment of the John Brocklehurst Prize for the best poster presentation covering good clinical practice/ audit at the Spring and Autumn Meetings of the British Geriatrics Society.

The original award, the Research for Ageing Trust prize for Clinical Audit for the best poster in the category of clinical practice was ended when Research into Ageing withdrew funding.

The prize has been named with the agreement of Professor Brocklehurst and is in recognition of his considerable contribution to clinical audit.

By awarding this prize, the Society hopes to raise the profile of clinical effectiveness in terms of guidelines, audit, benchmarking and sharing innovative practice within the BGS. The prize is also intended to encourage SpRs to undertake audit, enabling them to carry out one of their training requirements. It will also serve as recognition for methodologically sound audit projects.

The prize will be judged by two adjudicators and will be awarded for the best poster presentation. It is open to all presenters (in both consultant and non-consultant grades) and will be worth £200.

The first John Brocklehurst prize will be awarded at the Spring 2004 meeting in Derry/Londonderry.
