- Dean of Postgraduate Medicine for London

The Society congratulates Dr Ian Hastie on his appointment as Dean of Postgraduate Medicine for London in early December. He serves in this role part time, while retaining his position as consultant and senior lecturer at St George’s Hospital in Tooting.

Outside the time vested in direct patient care, Dr Hastie has always had a strong interest in the education of the next generation of doctors, and he served as Chairman of the BGS Training Committee a few years ago. He has also spent some years as Secretary of the Geriatric Medicine Section of the European Union Medical Specialties, the primary function of which concerns medical training across Europe (he is now Monsieur le President of the Geriatric Med Section of UEMS). Having been exposed to the disparate training systems and standards at that level, Dr Hastie will no doubt find the liaison necessary between the various stakeholders in London postgraduate medical education a walkover!
