a word from the Chair

Slowly but surely a more comprehensive list of SAS doctors working in elderly care medicine is being compiled.

A second wave of questionnaires will be sent out to those who were not captured by the first wave, and to non-responders, so please make the effort to reply this time – your last chance to let us know what problems you are faced with in attending BGS meetings, fulfilling your CME commitments and obtaining study leave and funding.

In addition to these points we would like to hear whether you feel the BGS meetings are addressing your educational needs. We have access to the meetings secretary if there are topics you would like to see addressed or feel have been neglected in current years. The preparation for BGS meetings is at least 18 months in advance of the meeting, so do not expect instant turn around but if you let us know your educational needs and interests this will help with future planning.

We now have representation on all national BGS Councils of Scotland, Wales and England.

Lastly let me remind you that membership to the SAS group is open to all members of the British Geriatrics Society, but also it is open to non-members of the BGS by invitation of the Committee. The latter is very important if we wish to be an inclusive group trying to attract all SAS doctors working within elderly care medicine. Hopefully if we can gain their involvement this will in turn lead to a wider and more representative BGS membership.
