Consultant Geriatrician

Adboud University Medical Centre
Nijmegen, The Netherlands

The Radboud University Hospital is a large University Medical Centre (1.000 beds; 8.000 employees). All academic tasks are core business: patient care, education and training and research. The department of Geriatric Medicine is a well recognised part of this University Medical Centre and is a referral centre for a large region.

Clinical geriatrics: There are working as a good functioning team of 7 geriatricians and we are still quickly expanding. We have very innovative types of patient care, e.g. our diagnostic day clinic (450 patient days per year), memory clinic, falls/syncope clinic and heart failure clinic under development. We also have a clinical department (22 beds), a consultation team and an outpatient unit. We are in a process of integration with internal medicine, but we are located next to the neurology and psychiatric departments, and we have a staff neurologist and psychiatrist as members of our team.

Research: We are focussing on cognitive decline and cardiovascular aging as lines of investigation. Both lines are firmly embedded in hospital research centres and research schools. Moreover, we host one of the three national Alzheimer Centres. PI’s are René Jansen, PhD, MD and Marcel Olde Rikkert, Prof, PhD, MD.

Training: We train 5-6 geriatricians, who have a registrar’s position at our department. The training is carried out within a cluster of 7 training clinics, in which also departments old-age psychiatry take part.

Vacancy: We have a direct vacancy for a consultant geriatrician. Clinical work may be combined with research, in which a number of state of the art technical research instruments are being used (Gait Rite; Sway star; Transcranial Doppler; Near Infrared Spectroscopy, actometry, etc). We offer a good salary fitting to your expertise and experience. There are unlimited possibilities for development in training of young doctors and research. Scouting for young talent and bridging the distance between Dutch and British geriatrics are part of the job.

Couleur locale: Nijmegen offers great opportunities to combine good living, with an interesting cultural life, bicycling, walking in large forests, artistic challenges, etc.
