Organised by Medical Education Partnership for the BGS, the first multi-disciplinary “United in Care” conference will be held at the Royal College of Physicians in London on 1 December 2004

This conference aims to identify ways to improve interdisciplinary collaboration among the health professionals providing health care for older people.

Programme
The morning will be a vehicle to celebrate areas of achievement in British practice and the role of older people health teams in providing these innovations. It will also provide the opportunity to update the multi-disciplinary team members on “state of the art care” particularly following the implementation of the National Service Framework and will include presentations by Jerry Playfer, President of the British Geriatrics Society; Prof Ian Philp, National Clinical Director for Older People’s Services, who is the key note speaker; Simon Auty and David Black who will speak on Intermediate Care; Ian McKeith who will deliver an update on the treatment of the dementias; Jed Rowe on understanding syncope and falls;
Lalit Kalra on Stroke; and Doug MacMahon on Parkinson’s Disease.

The afternoon will consist of poster prize presentations and a workshop/panel discussion on ‘How we do it – the team approach to feeding issues in hospital‘ led by a well-known “personality” in the field, and representatives from the multi-disciplinary teams, providing an opportunity for lively debate.
