The BGS’s grants and prizes programme fulfills an important function in a) meeting the Society’s charitable aims and b) in encouraging and supporting young doctors, nurses and therapists to gain a better understanding of the complexities of geriatric medicine. During the period June 2007 - June 2009, the following disbursements have been made in grants:

Medical Students’ Elective and Vacation Grant: Four grants, totalling £2,750 (range £200 - £1,980) was awarded for electives based in New York, India, Samoa and elsewere.

Young Doctors’ Educational Grant: Thirteen grants were awarded, totalling £4,373 to support trainee geriatricians’ attendance of international conferences.

Nurses’ Study Grants: Thirty grants were funded, totalling £5,393.

Therapists Study Grants: Ten grants were funded, toatalling £2,149.

Specialist Registrar Start Up Grants: A total seven projects were funded with £27,356.
