| Email your comments The BGS’s grants and prizes programme fulfills an important function in a) meeting the Society’s charitable aims and b) in encouraging and supporting young doctors, nurses and therapists to gain a better understanding of the complexities of geriatric medicine. During the period June 2007 - June 2009, the following disbursements have been made in grants: Medical Students’ Elective and Vacation Grant: Four grants, totalling £2,750 (range £200 - £1,980) was awarded for electives based in New York, India, Samoa and elsewere. Young Doctors’ Educational Grant: Thirteen grants were awarded, totalling £4,373 to support trainee geriatricians’ attendance of international conferences. Nurses’ Study Grants: Thirty grants were funded, totalling £5,393. Therapists Study Grants: Ten grants were funded, toatalling £2,149. Specialist Registrar Start Up Grants: A total seven projects were funded with £27,356.
