The British Geriatrics Society (Wales) recently moved its administrative headquarters to the Tŷ John Pathy offices in Cardiff which already houses Age Concern Cymru, Age Alliance Wales and a number of national pensioner organisations.
Opening of BGS Wales

The BGS Cymru-Wales will feel very much at home in their new offices as it is named after Prof John Pathy, an eminent consultant in geriatric medicine and someone who is widely viewed as the ‘father figure’ of the profession in Wales. Prof Pathy is also the President of Age Concern Cymru and has been instrumental in strengthening the working relationship between the two organisations.

Prof Pathy said: “I have long held the view that the BGS in Wales and Age Concern Cymru should have strong collaborative links. However, this need for a close working relationship has become even more pressing now that the charity is playing a significant role in increasing the awareness of older people about the National Assembly of Wales’ major strategy for health maintenance in this age group.”

The BGS Cymru - Wales chairman and consultant geriatrician in Wrexham, Dr Anthony White said: “This move is indicative of the future path of elderly medicine in Wales as we are looking to strengthen our multidisciplinary and community links to help keep our patients in their own environment as much as possible.”

The move to Tŷ John Pathy was recently celebrated by a special ceremony attended by Gwenda Thomas AM, The Deputy Minister for Health and Social Services.
