Confidentiality
Voters are identified only to ensure voting eligibility and, in view of the facility to vote both on-line and by postal ballot, to ensure that there is no double voting. All votes will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Postal ballot papers will be opened and processed by two members of the BGS office staff. On-line transactions will be verified by two members of the BGS office staff. Results will be verified by the Chief Executive. Ballot papers and on-line voting transactions will be kept for one month, whereafter they will be destroyed.

Eligibility of voters and validity of votes

  • Members of the British Geriatrics Society who qualified as medical practitioners are eligible to cast a vote to select the President Elect of the British Geriatrics Society. Associate members are not eligible to vote.
  • Each voter may vote once only and for one candidate only.
  • Where a voter double-votes e.g. votes both on-line and by post, only the postal vote will be counted.
  • Should a voter select more than one candidate by postal vote, his/her ballot paper will be considered spoiled and the vote will not be counted.
  • Where a voter votes more than once by online vote, only the first vote will be counted.
